In recent years, people have become very adept at using technology to showcase their products or services. They will put commercials on television, jingles on the radio, or posts on social media. Although these are all effective means of displaying an advertisement, it is hard to beat a good old fashioned billboard.

How to reach the public

Everyone knows that word of mouth is the best way for customers to find out about you. When there is a big, exciting new billboard in town, it is sure to attract attention and generate conversations among friends. They will want to see first-hand what you have to offer them.

So how exactly are you going to create that exciting billboard? Here are a few guidelines that you should be following:

  1. Cut down on the word count

People driving by will be more likely to read your billboard if it only has 6 or 7 words written on it. Fewer words will have more impact on the reader, and it will get the point across. Any more than that and the reader will not have enough time to process everything.

  1. Have a main focus

Don’t try to cram too many focus points onto your billboard. Keep it simple and easy to understand. There should be one main element that you are trying to draw the reader’s attention to. The rest of the billboard should only exist to support that element.

  1. Don’t be information-heavy

Drivers are focusing on their road, they will not want to be bombarded with phone numbers and addresses when they see a billboard. Instead what they should be seeing are the key points. This could include important names of companies/people or slogans. When the reader has more time to investigate the company, they will be able to process the smaller details.

  1. Don’t confuse the audience

There has to be a certain angle that you are going for with your billboard. Try to avoid being too plain and boring, because that is not going to stand out. However, you should also avoid being too complex. If the reader just doesn’t get what you’re trying to say with the billboard, they are unlikely to remember it. It is important to find a place in the middle between boring and complicated.

  1. Make an impression

Remember that this is not just a small newspaper ad. This is your big chance to get noticed and recognized. Use the opportunity wisely, and make an advertisement that people are going to remember.

  1. Don’t stop at one

No matter how effective your billboard is, it will be better if there are more. A wider selection of people will see the same ad, and it may attract more customers. If you can increase your marketing budget, it might be beneficial to rent at least three billboards per month. Then you have the option of placing them in strategic locations, where your target market is sure to see them.
